The Bach Companion

The Bach Companion is an educational multimedia title from 2000 that serves as an add-on to Harmonia Mundi’s Bach CD collections. The game introduces players to the complete musical universe of Johann Sebastian Bach, covering his life, family, the European and German historical contexts, and various aspects of Baroque music including organ compositions and distinctions between secular and sacred works. This interactive reference tool features an auditorium for listening to music and a composing machine that allows users to create canons, harmonize chorals, and write fugue expositions. Additionally, the ‘Play Bach’ section offers four engaging mini-games: a Bach Quiz to test knowledge, a musical extract matching game, a composer identification challenge where players recognize Bach’s works among others, and an Aria Memory game to identify Bach’s famous arias.
